Native Irish woodland and rewilding inspiration connected to Celtic Fusion Design and Hometree

Trees to Honour Our Past and Bless Our Future

Before the 17th century, Ireland was covered in vast old-growth forests. Over the course of three hundred years, irresponsible harvesting practices and industrial demand brought this number down dramatically.

Despite this devastating loss, the memory of these ancient woodlands still lives on in Irish culture, folklore, place names, and our relationship with the land.

The Memory of Ireland’s Native Woodlands

Native oak, hazel, willow, and many other species provided food, shelter, medicine, craft materials, and spiritual significance to the people of Ireland for thousands of years.

Trees played an important role in society and were often used as witnesses for major religious and political ceremonies. These woodlands also created habitat for Ireland’s once abundant and diverse wildlife.

When native woodlands faded, so too did biodiversity, self-reliance, and part of the connection to traditions that shaped Ireland for millennia.

At Celtic Fusion, we believe in reconnecting to ancient inspiration in more ways than design alone. Our clothing is inspired by Celtic heritage, but our values also call us to give back to the land that continues to inspire our work.

Our Partnership with Hometree

Several years ago, Celtic Fusion made the decision to partner with reforestation charity Hometree, supporting the planting of native tree species through customer orders.

Since beginning this work, our community has helped support thousands of native tree plantings, contributing to rewilding and woodland restoration in Ireland.

Restoring Forests with Care

Hometree shares our vision for the future of Ireland’s woodlands by honouring the ecological structure of native forests.

Rather than simply planting whatever grows fastest, Hometree takes a careful approach to restoration ecology. Their research helps them understand the landscapes they work with and the species that would have historically thrived there.

This commitment to forest health is what we believe will help safeguard the success of these plantings long after we are gone.

Support from ethically minded customers and the growing interest in reforestation has helped Hometree continue to grow its work. What began as a hope to aid a single plot has developed into wider restoration projects and future woodland plans.
